Silver mounted shell “amulet”

Description

Ca 1740 silver mounted shell amulet. These “amulets” come in all size and shapes from the early 14th century up to 1900,. Teh meaning and use of each is lost by now but it was one of the earliest form of “protection” “amuletic power” and simply lucky charm that the wearer hoped to harness thought wearing these objects.
