Silver gilt tumbler cup
Description
Ca 1710 fire gilt silver tumbler cup with “snake skin ” decoration. Marked underneath with the town mark of Augsburg and the makers mark of the Hugenot silversmith Paul Solanier. paul Soilanier who’s origin is French Hugenot became of of Augsburs famous silversmiths.
Tumbler cups were made to tumble and “sit up” or right up by themself. This was achieved by the silvermiths making the body lighter and leaving the main weight in the bottom of the cup.
“Snake skin” decoration was hammered onto the beaker with a specially tooled hammer where the face was engraved with half sphereical indents and the hammering result is a silmilarity of ray skin.
