1731 Herbal silver teapot
Description
Small silver herbal teapot. Augsburg 1731-33. Maker:Christian Frederick Lauch Master 1719 Died 1749
The silver handle is wicker covered, and since silver is a very good conductor of heat the handle is nomally wood.
/ “medical” teapots were used by surgeons to prepare and administer herbal tea remedies. Silver being antibacterial suited their aims to be used both as a “clean” option- most of the medical instruments were made of silver at this time-but also distinguised the surgeon to be able to use such exclusive option
