Silver gilt Augsburg spice box
Description
Silver gilt travelling spice box, normally these boxes were part of a set of wooden boxed “campagne” set which would include a fork a knife a spoon and a spice box. The more “upmarket sets would include besides all of the above , plus an egg cup a beaker and a marrow scoop. The campagne set name is given these sets since lots of them were used by military officiers on military campaigns, hence the need for the hard wearing leather covered wooden boxes. This box is on for feet , marked with the town mark of Augsburg fot the date of 1761-63 and the makers mark of Christian Roser.
Intact with the original fire gilding.
