Ca 1820 “China Trade ” silver salt with surious Georgian silver hallmarks. The heavy gaugae silver salt is a very clise copy of an English salt .
The fascinating story of the China Trade in the second half of the eighteenth century to the middle of the nineteeth century is well documented / Traders from Europe but mainly from England took pieces of silver to China and had them copied. The Chinese craftsmen did not understand what hallmarks really were but following their instruction they faithfully copied the piece including the hallmarks…/
