1720 silver teapot
Description
Antique silver teapot. This so far mystery teapot is probably North German near the Dutch border and ca 1720. Marked with the makers mark twice but no town mark. The shape and most of the chased decoration in very much Dutch in style and yet it is different. / The “similar” Dutch pots are regimentedly similar to each other / This pot is similar in the fact that it is also a squat shape, and the contours of the pot is very similar but it is twice the weight of a similar Dutch type, the spout is much wider and robust, the swirling chasing of the bottom is reminisent of Augsburg candlestick chasing of the 1680-1700 … The maker mark twice is referring to a rather provincial origin / hence no town mark../
Interesting early cross cultural manifestation of a piece.
Height : 14 cm
